The Meaning of Flowers

Our clients always ask us what type of flowers they should send for certain occasions. We specifically get a lot of questions from people regarding what is appropriate to send to their co-workers. Recently, a gentleman wanted to order flowers for a colleague who got promoted and he wanted to send her something feminine but nothing that would give the wrong impression. I always recommend keeping it simple by choosing white flowers, like roses, with greens. An arrangement like the above does not communicate any strong emotion. To help you with your flowers choices, I did some internet research and found this guide from Teleflora on the meaning of different flowers. However, remember as long as something comes genuinely from the heart, you will make someone happy.

A Love Bouquet

My nephew and his wife are celebrating their love with a Buddhist ceremony. We wanted to create a bouquet that she could carry the whole night as a hostess and a bride. I decided to design a hand wrist corsage with phalaenopsis orchids that would easily flow with the theme of their party.

Back to School Bouquet

The biggest news in my family this month is that my grandson has started kindergarten. He is very proud of the fact that he has to go to school all day, everyday, like how his mommy and daddy go to work. He loves telling us all about his new friends, teachers and class activities and we love hearing every detail. When he told me that it's his teacher’s birthday this week, I knew I had to create something special for him to give her.

Given that Apples are supposed to be the customary gift to give to teachers, it seemed imperative that I create an apple bouquet. The apple vase was easy. I carved a big apple to make a vase. I then filled it with some of my favorite flowers and a few vegetables to go with the fruit base. In spirit of the back to school season, I wanted to share this bouquet incase you wanted to give your favorite teacher an apple.

Celebrate September with Succulent Flowers

September is usually a hot month in San Francisco. This is when we finally feel the warmth of summer. In celebration of the heat, I am picking Succulent flowers as my September flower of the month. Succulent flowers are part of the cactus family. Because of their cactus roots, they can last long and take the heat. To soften this bouquet a bit, I got creative and added a few things from my fridge. I hid some broccoli, green beans, mushroom and fresh mints amongst the deep purple flowers. The mints added a nice aroma to the otherwise fragrance-free flowers. Check out the first arrangement in my design portfolio for another example of a Succulent floral arrangement.
